Our mechanic says that a strut is bad on the 1995 850 GLT (there is an intermitent clunking/rattle) and that the bushing should be replaced at the same time. Is this true and how serious is either part, if becoming defective. Thanks.

If you are putting in new struts, yes new top strut mounts are needed.

It's probably just the rubber spring perch making the noise..as for the struts needing replaced?

Hard to tell, once the strut is out, if it collapses easily then yes replace them. Mileage also has a play in replacing or not. If the top strut bushing/mount wasnt broken you could bounce the car and see how it responds to determine if you will need new struts.

I'd say if you have over 100k miles on the car, it's time for new shocks

96 855R 158k miles
04 V70R Red/Atacama/6 MT, 76k miles, Rica Stage2, 3"DP, JRL mod, 3"CAI, IPD HDTCV, Viva CBV, Elevate sways
