Hi,
I have a 1996 non turbo and have just replaced the air pump (filled with water), pump relay (dead), and SAS valve (full of black gunk).
Still no go. Pump does not run on cold start and I don't have vacuum at the SAS-valve (the purple line).
Is there a fuse for the system that may have burned or should I go through electrical connections?
Any pointers/suggestions most welcome since I have emissions test coming up and I need to get rid of the CEL.
TIA
/Johan

Did you clear the codes and drive the car...if you just put the stuff on and expect the light to go out it doesn't happen that way...the main thing with the emission test is getting the monitors up which requires a drive cycle after replacement of parts and clearing codes and your year car the drive cycle can be a real bear to hit right sometimes

The large yellow arrow points to where the controller is at, that is where the other end of the purple vacuum line thats on the SAS valve attaches to. You really need someone with a Volvo scan tool so they can activate the system and see whats not working.

Thanks for the input from both of you. Looks like I'll just have to bite the bullet and take the car in to the dealer.

Some independent shops have the volvo scan tool and know how to use it as well.

Thanks for pointing this out. I'll check with a couple of local shops on Monday.
MRWinkey: is the "drive cycle" you refer to the same as outlined in this dodument http://ebv.mimnet.northwestern.edu/~aiyar/..._Inspection.pdf?

Follow up:
Took the car in today and got my codes read to the tune of $37. After resetting all codes it turns out "EFI-521" comes back which means I've got a dead front O2 sensor.
Anything special to consider before I go ahead and shell out the cash for a new one and go about changing it apart from the excellent info on http://volvospeed.com/Repair/o2sensor1.php?
Cheers

Nope ..just replace the front 0/2 chances are the rear 0/2 won't be far behind on failure....now wasn't that $37 worth it?

Yeah I know..I use a Snap-on generic obdII but I have an AST for the real issues..98 it's maxed out..lookin into a Baum new on the market..but with the VST I could see things that the AST won't tell me, I could also induce readiness monitors which the AST won't do

Replacing O2 sensor wa a breeze and initial tests indicate that CEL is finally gone. Haven't driven very far though so maybe it's too soon for the final verdict.
