i'd like to buy some 17 or 18" wheels and THEN get new tires, but i don't think that is going to happen. right now i have 2 nearly bald tires on the rear which are the same brand, and 2 other tires up front with tread, but each is a different brand. so i guess i'm in the market for some new tires. blink.gif

on my Celica i used to buy Kelly Charger tires and they seemed to work fairly well and they'd hold up for about 3 years.

i may just get some more of them, as they are only about $100 a peice installed and balanced.

if anyone has suggestions for tires i'd like to find something that i can get for less than $500.

also, i'm not sure what speed rating we need for these cars. the Chargers are "H" rated.

I got 4 Falken Azenis ST115's balanced and installed today for $495.

EDIT: ...although I've heard treadwear sucks.

Maybe Yokohama ES100, Dunlop FM901, or Bridgestone Fuzion ZR-i (I have these but I don't really like them, they are good for the money though).

Good luck.

what size did you go with? looking online i only see 205/55/16 and 225/50/16. i'd like to go with a 205/50/16, unless the 225s will fit on my wheels and not rub.

I have Toyo Proxies on the front, and Avon 550's or something on the rear...both really quiet tires, and decent performance....i dont drive too hard all the time, so tires last me some time usually....tires and install will definitely cost you less than $500 on either of these sets.

what is the recommended speed rating for our cars? i don't think i'll be going 130MPH anytime soon, so an "H" rated tire would be ok?

Andrew,

I give the Fuzions are hard time. I'm used to a bit higher tires (S0-3 and Pilot Sports), so their grip doesn't impress me. The wet performance I don't think is all that great but I haven't had much chance to test it out (I hydroplane more but that's probably a result of me going from 205 to 225). I will say this though for the price they give you decent grip (better than re750s I've tried on other cars) and they don't seem to wear.

As for speed rating I would go for at least a V rating. Sure you may not go that fast but the tires do have different compounds for high speed ratings that are better for traction and resistance to heat transformation. That said all the tires I listed for your size would come in some sort of Z rating for about 100 a tire unmounted.

Good luck.

thanks for all your help Stephen!

i could get some of the S0-3 tires at Costco for a bit less than $180 each mounted and installed. i would go that way if i had wheels that i planned on keeping.

i'll check out the Fuzions, and make sure i go with something better than an H rated tire.

heh, the only problem is that i've been a pretty regular customer at the local Tire shop(a Tire Factory, i've even got an account there) but now i'm finding that they have a pretty limited selection. they do have Yokohama and Dunlop, but no Falken or Bridgestone. sad.gif
