Hello!


Took the car through the auto wash yesterday, stopped for ice cream....then the car would not start. I waited 20 min, then started up fine.....drove home. Ran an errand 2 hours later and started up fine...but, stalled on the highway 10 minutes later. Tried to start few hours later and nothing...Pushed to nearby lot where it still sits.

Any ideas?????

Julee... do you have a check engine light on? Was the car driving 100% fine up to the car wash?

ps. auto car washes are the devil.

Check for any codes first. please tell us a little more about your car, miles, how it had been acting before all this, any recent repairs, did you change gas stations?

The check engine light has been on since I have had the car......(2 years).........driving 100% fine up to the car wash! (well, except for the check engine light being on)

Julee... do you have a check engine light on?  Was the car driving 100% fine up to the car wash?

hmm... did they have the hood up on your car at all at any point during the car wash? how many miles on your brick? Car been maintained well?

Nope-----just me and the dogs sitting in the car during the car wash, then drove off........------135k miles/just had it in for service/inspection in february-----all fine-----new battery/electrical working fine/etc.

hmm...  did they have the hood up on your car at all at any point during the car wash?  how many miles on your brick?  Car been maintained well?

ok, try this. there is a connector that plugs into the MAF sensor, it's right after the airbox.



unplug that connector, see if the car starts and drives. if it does, you need a new MAF... I just had this same problem on my S70.

Check your check engine codes. Given the fact it has been on for 2 yrs it might have thrown anothr code and you would have never known. Kev you thinking fuel pump or the relay depending on what the CEL says?

ok, try this.  there is a connector that plugs into the MAF sensor, it's right after the airbox. 



unplug that connector, see if the car starts and drives.  if it does, you need a new MAF...  I just had this same problem on my S70.

A friend of mine checked the codes and this is the result -

C2000
P10D0
B0000
P000

Unfortunately he didn't have a screwdriver with him to perform the MAF sensor test. Tried to pry off the "latch" but was unable.

Any interpretation of these?

No problem.

He "specializes" in Rovers----I was lucky to get help with the codes.

Kevin, those are not Volvo codes I've never seen that format. Ma'am where did he pull the codes from?

1995 should have the A socket codes..

1996 should have OBD-II.


or is it both? weren't we just talking about this?

they can have both OBDII and the diag A/B socket under the hood

Chris_R has a '94 with OBDII port not sure if it works or not.

ok, cool.

Jules, i'd try unplugging that maf.. (now that you know how, our bad.. we should have told you that earlier) and if the car runs, then take it to an autozone, or a decent parts store and have them run your codes for ya. then, post 'em back up for us to see.
