Wonderful Misifire

so yesterday the R started misfiring around 5k when i got on it and it kicked down to second. like it would kick down to 2nd and pull from 3k to 5k then it would just misfire like hell. so i'd let off the gas and ease back into it, and it would pull fine at part throttle from 4500 to redline, then shift and be fine again. 3rd gear pull up a hill went past 5k no misfire.

so it did that a couple times and i was like "What????" then on my way back to LA i punched it to pass, same thing: kickdown up to 5k "ratatatataaata" stumbling, then hooks up again and goes on its merry way. except this time the check engine light comes on. monkey.

any ideas? i suppose getting a code reader is step one...

1. what are plugs gapped at?
2. what brand are plugs?
3. how old are plugs?
