Hello,

I noticed that on my 1999 S80 the loom that protects the
coil wires has deteriorated in places, I clean the wires and
wrapped them in good 3M electrical tape, should that be good?

Also, I bought the car used, I noticed that the coil packs were
numbered by hand, would that have come that way from the
factory? Or has someone most likely replaced the spark plugs
once before?

Thanks

Ya any protection you put on is OK. The numbering is not factory, techs do it to keep things streight and to make sure the right coil pack is put back on the right plug.

I'll play devil's advocate and say that the convoluted plastic tubing provides better protection from heat, friction wear, fraying and puncture then the tape. It also provides an efficient method of wire harness assembly and protects and reduces installation damage to wiring circuits. Engineers specified this stuff for a reason, with that noted the tape will probably be fine.
