95 850 turbo.

when i purchased the car several of the turbo hoses were shot, who knows for how long.

rigged up some (mediocre at best) hoses a few days after until i actually got around to fixing it properly.

i've replaced all of my vacuum lines, throttle body gasket, put a block off plate where the cbv was and installed a bov, i've got a catback, and with a manual boost controller screwed all the way down im boosting 10psi with spikes to 13 with full boost not coming on until a little over half way through the gear.

is my turbo toast? i wouldn't be suprised. sad.gif

In my limited experience of toasty turbos, they make a horrible wailing sound when they're over the hill. Sounds more like you have an electronic/management problem.

(what I know about turbos is quite dangerous, so don't take my word for it.)

Try taking off the vacuum line/boost line that goes to the waste gate solenoid, and see if your boost gets higher. Careful, don't want to run around with 20-25psi, this is just a test.

you're boosting 10PSI. i'm pretty sure not getting full boost until 3000RPM is normal.

Its the can on top of the turbo. If you take away a boost signal the wastegate will not open. It should make infinite boost, not a good idea but a good diagnostic tool.

If it doesn't, I'd be looking for:
torn CBV
massive boost leaks (With Franks kit it took me multiple tries to get everything to seal up for some reason. Everything looked visually good as well, but still leaked a bit)
Cracked wastegate housing
Misadjusted wastegate flapper/actuator

or if your like me and your turbo wont boost higher than 12 psi anyway... just leave it unplugged smile.gif : smile.gif

But this will work to tell you where you problem is... it is the one that when you look at the turbo the wastegate rod goes to it.

Im sorry, even a small turbo with a properly adjusted wastegate will make lots of boost with the actuator unhooked.

hey thats interesting, id never heard they sounded different but i could SWEAR mine sounded different upon realizing it was toast. it was a loud houl instead of a sahrp whine. it was high pitched but had more sound to it. anyways, doesnt sound like your turbo is toast, check for oil in your interecooler piping. thatd be a sure sign. if you found a lot. Also look for oil loss

have you checked your intercooler for leaks ... we found a leak on a friend intercooler, 3" long crack in the front behind the lower outlet. would get around 6psi and spike to 11psi on shifts

jbwelded it and it held 13-15psi so far .. we'll see how long that lasts

but yea check the intercooler
