Anyone with experience removing the auto...

I have teh VADIS instructions here, and I have everything unbolted except the torque convertor. Now VADIS says in that small access hole on the back side there are 6 T50 torx, now when I look in there with a mirror, and have a friend turn the crank, I see nothing. The only thing even close is a little band around TDC. Looks like it has 3 allen heads (although I'm pretty sure they aren't) None of these supposed bolts and something is definately still holding it on. It's starting to split away between the engine and trans (there is a gap all around) except on the top front corner (looks like there is some sort of pin that goes into the trans from the starter bracket.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can also take pics for anyone needing clarification.

I had to use a t-50 or t-55 torx bit to take six small bolts out of the flexplate to TC. then It was "fun" wiggling it out of there dry.gif

Alright, I got the trans to seperate (bout an inch or more away around the entire housing) it was the pin on the front corner by the starter that was holding it. Nothing a chisel/hammer and some WD40 couldn't handle.

Now that it's seperated, it's still not letting loose. The vadis instructions say something about the Torx bolts (haven't seen any yet) and they also say something about pushing the torque convertor down thru that little hole on the back side. The trans seems to move pretty freely on there, will rotate a little, but the thing will not come off. Prolly something I'm missing somewhere.

Oh well, at least I've got other stuff to work on today (finishing up the interior, getting all the pedals mounted)

Victory is mine!
ha

Rich's PM helped a great deal. There is more than one hole. Basically go forward about 6in from the pass side axle hole and you will find a notch in the motor block and you will see the teeth of the flywheel. It's right there. I found that using long extensions from the pass side wheel well worked great. Was able to turn the crank myself and then undo the bolts.

Thanks Rich again! biggrin.gif

Dang, Rich beat me to it. I was going to tell you to look for the flywheel teeth. That was a HUGE bear to find when I did mine.

But once you know where they are you know right where to look for them. biggrin.gif
