I took my car to pep boys to get my oil change. Turns out that i need a new ball join, control arm bushings and a couple of other things. The technician also showed me that the CV boot (the piece of rubber covering the steering knukel) is ripped. He tells me that when the grease dries out the knukel will be useless. My question is how long can i drive my car without repairing this boot.. I ordered all the parts of of FCP groton but they will be here in like 5 days. Wnat should i do??

5 days isnt that bad. Just be careful over rough roads.

By the steering knukel I guess you mean the outer CV joint right? The steering knuckle is actually the part that the strut bolts to and the axle goes through the center of. If you have torn the boot open and are slinging grease out and allowing road grime in I would strongly recommend that you just put in a reconditioned axle. The grease does not really "dry out" it gets slung out via centrifical force to the point where there is nothing left in there but road grime and then you joint will proceed to grind itself to death. How long does this take? Usually quite some time and there is usually a "clicking" noise in tight turns that is associated with it. Depending upon how long you have already been driving it, 5 days will probably not make too big of a difference.

Hang a rebuilt axle on it.
