Hello experts. my wifes 96 850 kept going dead battery.Turned out the air pump relay was full of rusty water.Unplugged it and ran it for a couple months.I plugged it back in for inspection and it actually worked and check engine light went off but had misfire codes on all cylinders.Changed plugs, cap rotor, wires fuel filter.Car starts ands idles okay but has very little power, takes a long time to get up to 65,engine stumbles, burns alot of gas. What can i do short of taking it to dealer?I assume i should do the sas valve and pump/relay,would this cause the car to have reduced power, always ran like a top up until i had problems with air pump.I have read very many posts but none conclusive enough to describe my problem and solve it.Any of your time would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert but I just did air pump, relay, SAS-valve and O2 sensor on my 96 NA. This system should have zero effect on performance. At least once the car is warmed up. I don't feel any difference whatsoever. I had to do mine to get rid of CEL to pass emissions test. You seem to have additional (related?) problems. Could be as easy as a vacuum leak or bad electrical connection somewhere. Do you have any codes in its' current state?

Cheers

i was going to suggest the 02 for the gas milage but it shouldn't effect performance all that much.

I would suggest unplugging your mass air sensor, if it doesn't change, your MAF is bad

Sounds like your problem may be with the tune up parts installed...did you use factory parts? and no Bosch plats?....if it's idling fine doubt it a hose off..go recheck your tune up stuff....like said air pump will have NO affect on performance like you have stated neither will a bad 0/2
