I recently purchased a 1996 850 Wagon, with 159,000 on it. It had what the seller called "a skip at idle," which he claimed was probably because of a bad plug or seal. I bought the car cheap, and I'm perfectly willing to put some money into it to get this repaired, but I think the local shop might be trying to oversell me.
The report they gave me states "Eng code: 452 #2 cyl misfire #2 cylinder compression 25PSI." I was told I have two options: junk the car, or replace the engine. Sounds extreme on both counts, but what do I know? This car is a whole different animal from the old 245 I used to drive.
Any thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks.
Can It Be Repaired?

Either stuff a used engine in it or junk it.

you could drop the pan, pull the rod cap off. pull the head, push the offending piston out replace and put it all back together
1996 Volvo 854 2.4L non-turbo 212,xxx miles Forsyth, Ga.
Works in progress - Conversion to turbo with a NA motor or 260hp no turbo. Say a prayer for me.
302mm brakes, IPD sway bars front and rear, QBM end links, MSD 6A ignition w/Blaster 2 coil pack, Jet Chip, Bilstein Shocks/Struts, R Springs. Hell I can't remember everything else.

are both of the above suggestions based on the compression of that cylinder?...it can't be just based on the misfire....
there has to be some backup to justify replacing the engine....
I mean, get a compression test first, replace some plugs/wires/cap, etc....
