I have an upsolute chip and was told by upsolute dealer here in Charlotte, NC that they would rewrite the chip for free if it got wiped by a Volvo repair/upgrade.

I have not had to take them up on it yet. I also have not had the ETM upgrade done (not even sure if if it applies to an R)

Volvos built from the year 1999 and after have an ETM. The update should apply to all you with an ETM (I.E. a car built in 99 or after). Always good to double check with the deal.

So let me get this straight. So when you go in to get you ETM updated it will wipe out any thing you had on your ECU?

I just called my local Austin, TX dealer. The software is free (first time they've ever told me that about any service. . . she had to double check her forms). I'm set up to do it tomorrow morning, so I'll let you guys know!

I'm running stock so I don't forsee complications, but it will be nice to have a working ETM.

it does do a pretty good job of fooling the cem into thinking all is well wityh the TB though... we have had only one car respond very poorly to the upgrade...that was not a good day. sad.gif

that is correct. the ETM's still suck, so keep $1000 in you glove box for that tow truck if youre far from home.
this software just makes it updated

Hi all you Volvo-fans over there.

When tuning my V70 1999 R AWD I choosed the BSR PPC solution, which is a software based "box with a cable" which you plug into the datainterface of your car. Check out http://www.bsrab.se. Look for the PPC pages.

Picture of the PPC unit: http://www.bsrab.se/bilder/_/x680y480_503000.jpg

To chip your car takea about 3 minutes. The PPC box stores your original program from car and updates the ECU with the tuning program. My car now runs 300 Bhp. It's like driving a wild bull...

Be aware that the Cruise Control will be a bit rough in the speed range 0-80 Km/h (55 Mp/h).

Everytime Volvo updates software for your car the BSR company sends you an email and tells you that you have to download (from Internet) a new software into the PPC box (which is connected to your computer by USB-cable).

You can drive "unchipped" in wintertime and "chipped" in the summertime.

The price I paid through a local dealer in Norway was approx. 1.200 dollars.

It's easy, and I love it... biggrin.gif

I also drive with JR Sportsfilter (http://www.jrfilters.fr/index.php?lng=en) and Twin Pipe exhaust from SAM (Sam Steffansson - http://www.samsteffansson.se/samindex.html).

The JR Sport Airfilter gives you a more rough sound in front of the car and the SAM Twin Pipe Exhaust gives the car a good and rumbling sound from outside (rear end).

BONE STOCK 01 V70.... it fried the CEM.... but there were other issues surrounding the download that could have been the cause...

Good solution! cool.gif
Because I'm thinking that without what you have (the BSR kit), these guys that are rushing to the dealer with their chipped ECU's to have the new ETM upgrade done and then rushing back to their chip tuning company to have their chip reflashed again are "doing" and then "undoing" everything over and over again... a real waste of time.

What needs to happen here is for UPsolute, IPD or anyother company involved to "incorporate" the new Volvo software into their re-flash.

so is the ETM flash free for all vehicles? I contacted the local dealer and they said that there is a recall on the ECM for a program upgrade and not the ETM. they told me that they can do it (the ETM) but they will charge me for it???
does that make sense?

Yep....they have to prove to themselves that your ETM is foooobarred before they'll replace it for free.
