Back when I still had my 940 and needed to do an oil change, I just drove the car up onto this pair of ramps that I have. Now, though, the 850 is too low to drive up onto the ramps without either scarping the crap out of or destroying the bumper. Can anyone think of a reasonably safe way to get the car onto ramps? I don't trust jack stands.

I don't see why you don't like jacks + jackstands, but here is an alternative:

The solution is quite simple. You need longer ramps. Get a couple of 2x4s and lay them in front of the ramps. Drive up the boards then onto the ramps. If the car is still too low you are SOL.

Put a pair of 2x4 planks in front of the ramps. The 2x4 acts as a "step-up" to the ramps. Are you using Rhino Ramps? Quite a few here use them with their 850s without problems.

Okay, I'll get some 2x4's.

My ramps are Craftsman, I think. They're metal and really solid.

I change my oil quite comfortably with the left front wheel on a 3" flagstone. A few more burgers and I'll have to get ramps, though.

My indy mech converted his garage into a decent shop. He has 2 lifts in it and a raised ceiling. I am planning on picking up one of the scissor type lifts for my garage one of these days. For now low clearance floor jacks and tons of jackstands will do wink.gif

In a previous job, the machine/auto shop had a pit. Not useful for suspension work, but nice to be able to stand up under the car. smile.gif

Why don't you just jack it up, and then put the ramps underneath?????
