Did you know the hood of the 850 can go freakin 90* like the 700 series hoods can?

I figured it out like three weeks ago when I was fiddling around trying to get my car to start. I saw the little tabs so i flipped em and VOILA the hood opens all the way up.

I always thought it was super cool how the 700's did that. ph34r.gif

Yes, yes I did. Not all owners know that though, and I have had to show many people how to do it. Excellent feature though, and makes working at the rear of the engine much easier.

One of my favorite features on Volvos. Any time you have the hood open 90 degrees, it just demands attention from the public smile.gif

Ah, the power of reading the owner's manual! In the early days of the computer biz, there was an acronym RYFM. Read your Factory (*) manual.

The hood normally opens to an angle of 57°. The hood can be opened to the vertical position by rotating the hinge catches (see illustrations). The catches will return to their normal positions when the hood is closed. Take care in low-roof garages!

Interesting topic.
Everytime I work on a Volvo (most of the times to remove the ABS unit) every single owner is amazed that I open the hood all the way. Then they want to know how I did it.

I am surprised at how many Volvo owners I encounter that don't know this. And these are people that work on their own cars and don't know.
It is like a trick to amaze your friends, only you do it with their car. smile.gif

Yes, but when you are the second or third owner of the car, the manual tends not to make it that far. I didn't have a manual when I bought my car and ended up buying a set off eBay. The manual is how I learned about the hood also.
