It seems in the past 2 weeks I have been dragged into working on two simliar volvos. One is a 1998 S70 and the other is a 97 96 850. What I am wondering is the 850 has a no spark condition. I am getting 12 V to the coil, but it it doens't appeear tobe collapsing on the negative side. Which I would normally see this indication on other cars. First off is it being controlled by a "Cam Position Sensor" or a "Crank position Sensor" I dodn't see a magnetic pickup leaving the dizzy so it must be.......I thought I saw a Crank Postion Sensor in the side of the block. If so I am guessing a bad sensor would cause the no spark and would explain why the coil isn't collapsing. I guess I am loking for specs too.....What should the coil voltage be at cranking and running? Is there a ballast resistor somewhere? Also when I measure the voltage accross the wires (+, and I call it Tach wire) I get 0 volts....is this correct? I would think you would have to see 12V. SOrry for the iggnorance not use to Volvo ignitions maybe they do something different. Also where do I read the error codes from?

Hook up a Volvo Scan tool and see what and if any codes are stored.

It was the Cam Postion Sensor as I thought................Where is the spec section? Can you pull codes without a scan tool? By working it off the engine light anyway?
