I think it is done with special volvo tool that a dealer should have. OEM bushings aren't installed that often any more, but polyurethane ones that do not need the tool to be put in place.

I found a site that explains how to make a homemade tool to push in the oem bushing http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com. One more thing though, there is a smaller bushing that attaches directly to the firewall, should this bushing be replaced also? Thank you!

Are you replacing the stock bushing with another stock one?

I'm the one who wrote that article regarding the home-made $10 tool for replacing the 1-piece stock rubber bushing not the 2-piece poly bushing. If you have any questions about the tool, fire away. Regarding your question about the smaller bushing, never heard about it having to be replaced so I'd leave it alone.

Thank you for your reply and great article geeves. As far as the condition of the small bushing, when you move it around, you can see that it is wearing out, though it has not completely broken off like the larger one...

I also was not able to squeeze the larger bushing in so that it would be perfectly centered within the bracket, will this be a problem? Thank you.
