The wiring to my module under the hood got ripped and I was wondering If I can get any information from OBD II scanner.
Does a check engine light always indicate that I need OBD II scanner to read codes. My indy mechanic says that you only need OBD II scanner if there is a check engine light..
any info on this ..

Sorry to hear that. No information on that. you would need a wiring diagram to check the wire routing. If there are some broken wires , color match up wires and splice . Use enviromental splices!! or solder and shrink wrap. If the harness has many broken wires ,broken connectors , find a new or used harness .
The volvo 850 from 96 on are OBD2 for sure and 95,94 possibly ,You need a ODD2 scan tool to read the codes and clear the CE lite. I use the obd-2 scan tool program by Alex Pepper . It runs off a laptop computer and can read and clear CE codes and clear the oil service lite as well.
