I 'd be taking my 1997 nonturbo 850 in to a 2000 mile trip from the south to the west coast. Here is the question, I got 160,000 on it. I last changed the T belt ( and water pump) and serpentine belt 55,000 ago, so I am gonna replace them before taking my trip, I have never replaced any of the tensioners or pulleys... but my mechanic told me it would be wise to do it at this time.

I have looked over Fcpgroton and I get confused over which tensioners and pulleys to get, I am not sure whether I have a manual or automatic tensioner.. I looked over the t-belt cover in search of the engine number and the closest thing to that was a 7 digit number ( 6821725) which accordinbg to Fcpgroton should be a manual tensioner.

What parts should I be concern about? And where is a good place to find a good deal on them?

Thanks, a lot! huh.gif

You have a hydraulic tensioner that should not require replacement, but it would be a good idea to replace the idler pulley when doing the timing belt. You may also want to check out eeuroparts.com in addition to FCP Groton.

Cool!
But what about the serpentine tensioner and idler pulley? You think I should replace them?.. I have seen it vibrate a little when the engine is running, I dont know if that means anything dry.gif .....I also noticed it cost about $115 +....

Any comments are more than welcome,

Txs.

I would not worry about serpantine tensioner or pulley unless they produce noise other than regular ticking sound and slight vibration. Both should last a lifetime of the car.

Should the idler pulley be replaced on a car with 81K miles also? So all that I would need when relpacing the T-belt is the belt and potentially an idler pulley? Thank you.
