the other day i was sitting in front of work and i noticed (to my displeasure) that smoke was coming out from under my hood. I quickly hopped out and popped the hood to see smoke coming from around the backside of the engine, somewhere around the heat shield. I know my rear main seal leaks so i pulled the dipstick to check the oil level and smoke started coming out of the dipstick tube too! doies anyone know what this could be? I refilled my anitfreeze the otherday too if that helps.

You have a turbo so it cann't be a clogged flame trap. Rear main seal is between the transmission and the engine so I don't think it will affect the crankcase gases. How is your tranny fluid level? Do you miss a lot of antifreeze?

i have to top off the anti-freeze every 6-10 months i'd say. It kinda slowly disappears in small amounts, not all at once. I was used to filling the anti-freeze but this was the first time i saw smoke coming out from under my hood. brought back bad memories of overheating in my last car.

Have you recently replaced the oil cap gasket? This gets old and hard from the heat and lets oil out, which fills the wells under the spark plug cover. When these are full, it runs out the back, where you describe burns off in the fashion you saw. First step would be to take off the spark plug cover and see if you have any oil under there.
