Got word of this shop called The Garage. He does work only on volvo's and says he is cheaper than Borton and most other shops. I am going there to get a break job estimate later this week. Just wondering if anyone in MN has heard anything or been their before? If not i will let you know later this week.

yeah, let me know what you think. I'm looking to have someone maybe do my RMS. I'm tired of my leaky mess. Kline and Borton are the only ones that I've heard of, so if you dig these guys keep me posted! Thanks!

I talk with the owner of The Garage, and he told me that he needs to take my brakes apart first to see what they need then, in a worst case secenario it would cost me $450 per axle. Does this sound like a good estament? or is he jurkin my chain?

Thanks alot

Hi,

I've never heard of this place. I strongly suggest you call Gorsche Brothers for a comparison.

Gorsche Brothers Garage in Minneapolis, near the University (East Bank). I have used them for 6 years, excellent work, great rates. They know Volvos. I don't take my car anywhere else. The person who works on my car is Greg. If you call and talk to Greg he will know who I am if you tell him what car I drive.

For those interested here is the contact info for Gorsche:

Gorsche Auto Service
800 14th Avenue SE
Minneapolis, MN 55414
612-331-2035, 612-331-2397

I am more than willing to share the list of things I've had them do on my car. They will install both OEM and aftermarket components. A few years ago I had them install new struts/shocks (I had them put on Bilstein HDs)

I've used both The Garage and Gorsche multiple times over the last five or six years. Both have advantages.

Whitney, the owner of The Garage, is a character, but he knows his Volvos. I've never gotten a repair there that gave me any trouble, but I think he sometimes does more work than is really necessary because he wants the car running absolutely perfectly. Whitney's great about working with "used" parts if you or he can find them, and more than once he's gone out of his way to fix little annoying things (like replacing a window knob, etc) without my asking (and without charging me). He's not quick, but he knows what he's doing.

Having said that -- I love Gorsche. They're friendly, pretty quick, and generally less expensive than other places. Most importantly, I trust them to accurately tell me what my Volvo needs, without looking for ways to make more money. They get a lot of their business through referrals and repeat customers, and they deserve it.

Try Gorsche first.

Another shop worth looking at is The Pheonix. I got my car checked out there before I bought it. Their inspection was $75, about half of what most dealership shops charge. They also know their stuff and work almost specifically on luxury and european cars.

I like your post on Minnesota. It is very useful and interesting for everyone. Anyone can add their ideas about it. In my opinion, I think that Minnesota can be translated as sky tinted water or somewhat turbid water. [
