Hey guys,
One of the switches to control a rear window on the master switch panel is intermittant in opeing and closing a rear window. Do, I need to remove the door panel to get at the switch or can the panel pop out? Also would you recommend simply applying some contact cleaner to the switch?
Thanks, Larry

Larry, I remember on my 98 V70 I was able to just pop out the whole assembly remove the plugs and just drop the new one in. It took me less than 5 minutes to figure out how to take it out and put the new one in. I wish I had the car here to look at but my wife has it. I think there is a little cover panel near the swithches you need to pop and a screw is behind it. I don't know if contact cleaner would do it. I think its common on the 98's for the panels to go. I replace the panels in both 98's I had/have.

I agree with the above....you can try some contact cleaner spray it under the switch(key off) and rock it back and forth rapidly it may buy you some time. But becareful as some cleaners can craze plastic...just wipe up the excess quickly(the switch assm. just pops out)

I just found out today that I have to replace the master switch on my '98 S70. There is a small square cover just behind the master switch in the hand well. Pop that off and you will find a 25 Torx screw. Remove that and then use a flat blade screwdriver to pry the door panel loose arounfd the bottom of the door. Once you have it loose enough to get your arm up inside the panel just find the underside of the master switch assembly and shove it out. There are 3 connectors to remove/replace. 5 minute job tops!

i actually think this is very easy to do...i removed my door panels several times for window probs, sound deadening and speaker installs...removing the switch should be a breeze...the only thing to remember is TAKE YOUR TIME WHEN REMOVING THE DOOR PANELS...a lot of plastic stuff breaks easily if u go to fast and arent gentile...treat your volvo door panels like you would your woman.
