My headlights on my '96 850 are pointing straight down. It's obvious they fell of the three posts. I can not get them back on.
Anyone else have this happen (how!). Is there a trick to re-seating them?

Both sides at the same time, something is up, did you hit a big bump, did you try adjusting them? If nothing is broken you can get the reflector back connected to the adjusters but you will have to take the light apart. If you take off the back cover for the high beam light you can often see the ball and socket that works the verticial adjustment, I've managed to snap them back in place without taking the light out of the car.

Both sides are indeed off. I'll revisit what you suggest. But my hands got pretty munched trying to re-seat them. They just do not want to get aligned and set on the posts no matter how much I force it. I feel kind of stupid since it looks so simple.

Try turning the adjuster to move the ball part into a better position to get it to catch, last resort is take the headlight out of the car and take the glass off the front and try it that way. With the glass off keep everything off the reflector, don't clean it or anything, it will end up messed up.

Definitely try messing with the adjusters (specifically the up/down one) before your next try. I had a sort of similar problem. Thought I was never going ot get the thing back on. But after deciding to point the light all the way down (ie. making the top adjuster move forward) it became much easier to snap on.
I hope that made some sense.

Ok - I see what you mean. I'll try it that way and with the glass off. Happy to see someone had the same issue re-seating it. It just seems so obvious but its a bugger.
