hey all,
i was having an issue with cylinder 5 misfiring so i replaced all the plugs with OEM volvo. they were fine for a while, but i'm having a small issue.
It seems like whenever i first start the car, and if i let it sit there without moving for a minute or two, the check engine light will go.. resulting in a cylinder 5 misfire code. If i clear the codes, start the car and back out and go without sitting there, it doesn't throw. I've driven several 200+ mile trips where the entire time i'm driving there's no check engine light, then i park it and when i'm leaving, start it up and let it sit for 2 minutes and it throws the stupid CEL again.
what should do? replace wires?
thanks,
pete

Matt (Saffron98) had a similar problem like this, except in cylinder 2. He replaced his cap, rotor, wires, and plugs, which cured everything.

hm. does anyone else have any comments?
by the way, if i take out the spark plugs again to make sure they're gapped correctly, do i chance harming anything? my dad said if i take them out again and put them, they might not 'seal' right or something causing me to lose compression...

I had a cylinder 5 misfire after setting the gap on my plugs. Turns out when i removed the plug wires, the no. 5 cylinder wire pulled out of the sleeve a bit, so that it made a partial connection with the plug. Check to make sure that your wires are a; making a spark (disconnect wire to cyl 5 and have someone crank car,) and b, make sure they are all making a good connection with the plugs.
by the way- This happened with OEM wires purchased through FCP.

Another possibility is a sticking injector. This is not very common, but more likely with high miles. I would still start with checking the cap and rotor. YOu can usualy see if there is a lot of carbon build up at the points.
