SIG LINK PART 2...
THE R

1996 854 R

MODS
Mistubishi TD04HL 16-T
Notes: Replaced the 15g with the 16t mainly because I thought my turbo was worn. Turns out my 15g was still in mint condition but I left the 16t in. The 16t is a bit more efficent in the mid range boost but lesser in the high end. In any case I still feel it is an upgrade to the 15g, not much but worth it if you are just looking for a turbo you can drop in without any worries on extra tuning.
Custom Boost Gauge Install
Notes: See thread for comments
IPD ECU
Notes: This was installed by the P/O. I do like the fact IPD uses ECU flashing instead of chip burning. I also like their more conservative approach to tuning, makes me thing my Volvo is going to continue its long life
IPD 2.5 Cat Back
Notes: This was also installed by the P/O. Wow I love this exhaust. Very nice mellow tone, tip isn't huge but its noticeable. I can't stand droning or the sound of loud exhausts (open down pipe e/t/c). I drive my car everyday I like something that isn't going to bother me or my fellow commuters.
Lower Shores Performance MBC
Notes: I purchased this Manual Boost Controller because it was low cost $35 and for the fact the maker of them stands by them 100%. Find me another company that provides a LIFE TIME WARRANTY on their product. I was very impressed by the build quality when it arrived. It even comes with a mounting bracket and vac hose. I used the mounting bracket (after trimming) to attach it to the upper torque arm. I opted to use some of the left over Hose Techniques silicone hose instead of the included piece.
Spool up is significantly better with the MBC
The BCS has been relocated to an unused mounting point where the air box had previously rested. I also capped all 3 vac ports on the BCS for safety/piece of mind even though it is not necessary

NOTE: MBC removed and standard BCS used in placement for winter. Quick spoolup results in of course more power throughout the revs however it also reduces gas milage (easier to get the car into boost with less pedal pressure) and of course less traction especially in winter. The MBC remains mounted in the engine bay for quick switching if desired for more spirited driving.
Custom Intake
Notes: see comments in thread
Samco intercooler Hoses
Notes: These can be very hard to get a hold of. Buy them if you know youre stockers are shot they pretty much wont wear out. I REFUSE to use these on coolant from a few horror stories. The fit is A LOT tighter than the stock hoses, you may have to use a hair dryer to heat the hose to add some flexibility when installing
Polished Upper intercooler Pipe
Notes: Pain to strip the paint however results are worth it. Spend time, make it nice.
Hose Techniques Starter Kit
Notes: included with this kit is A LOT of hose that we have no use for on these cars. The 4mm line is really the only hose to be concerned with. $58 does get you alot of hose though
Kevins Door Lock Pins
Notes: See thread
Refinished Volans In Bronze
Notes: See thread
IPD alm strut brace
Notes: These are not up to the quality of an OMP brace however for the price I paid it was worth the upgrade of no bracing at all. Higher speed cornering is improved the most. Lower speed cornering shows little improvment. Brace provides a new location for mounting of components such as horns, water inection pump e/t/c
Catch Can, Polished Intake Manifold

IPD Mesh Grille
Notes: OEM slash and s60 R grille emblem also installed. The IPD mesh grille is by far higher quality compared to "other" vendors. The construction is fully metal and comes powder coated which is about the only thing that will stand up to rock chips, sand, and other road debris (especially here in the North East). Past experiences with fully prepped and painted grilles have resulted in nothing short of a month or two before at least one chip had occurred.
QBM Sway Bar End Links
Notes: See the comparo shot above as well as this one here to give you an idea of how beefy these units are. They weigh quite a bit more than the stockers and are fully adjustable. Most people will really never have a need to adjust these for performance change however people auto crossing, tracking e/t/c will surely find the adjustability to be a great feature.
I set the links pretty much identical length to stock and have definitely noticed quicker turn in. 3 month long term eval to be completed.
______________
The "goal" of this car is simple. Reliable daily driver kept clean, fully maintained and of course a few small upgrades to enjoy the driving experience. Nearly all of my modifications can be fairly easily removed in the event of need to return to stock form. I never set out of have this car as one to attract un-necessary attention from our friendly officers of the law. I'll leave that to people running 4' exhausts off their 1.8L n/a motors.
