Hi!

I am new on this forum and like to introduce myself in this thread.
I was reading this forum frequently in the past few weeks since i own a volvo for a few months. My previous car was a Honda Civic Sedan ESi, but my girlfriend totalled that one and i bought a Volvo S40 Bi-Fuel.

I work a fulltime job as a webdesigner/webdeveloper.

Because i am Dutch and my english is not so good i'd like to finish this post with a few pictures of my car:

Well... under the hood this car is as stock as possible. There is only a thick red powercable that goes through the firewall to the trunk. This is for powering the subwoofer amplifier.

I haven't made any pictures under the hood yet, but i'll try to make a few.

Oh, didn't know that! In Holland the bi-fuel cars are very populair, due to the high fuelprizes. For example: i used to pay 1,50 euro per liter for benzine (euro 95) and on LPG i pay just 0,50 euro per liter. If you drive a lot, but not enough to switch to diesel, it saves you a lot of money. I save around 400 euro per month when i drive on gas.

Under the hood the car looks exactly the same, compared to a regular S40. All the extra parts (the extra fuelinjectors, etc.) are almost not visible. Only the floor in my trunk is raised about 10 cm. The spare wheel is gone and replaced by the extra 40 liter gas tank.

My understanding is that they run on CNG (comperssed natural gas) and regular pertrol as the say in Europe in the backup fuel.

You are right! The car is build like any other S40, but they added an extra tank for gas. In Holland we call it LPG, but i understand it's CNG in america. I have two fuelmeters in my cockpit displaying the contents of both tans. With a special button on the dashboard i can switch from regular petrol to CNG. I can switch between these fuels whenever i want. Only downside is that when i roll on CNG, the car is a little bit slower. And since this is a 1.8i and not a phat 2.5 T5 i don't care. I'll try to take a few pictures now, but it's a little dark outside now. I'ts 22:30 here.

@Fearless: Nice to see i'm not the only dutchman on this board! Are there more dutch people here?

I made some pictures:

In a regular S40 there is the engine-temperature in stead of the CNG fuel level.

I can switch from regular petrol to CNG with this button.

This is my trunk with the raised floor. You can see my subwoofer doesn't fit anymore and has to lay on his side.

And this is under the hood. You can only see the injectors added on the intake. Please notice the nice powercable cause it took me a WHOLE day to get it through the f***ing firewall.

By the way: why is it that americans always think european cars are awesome? European highways are so dull, filled with little cars, fitted with little engines. No roaring, big V8's and parkinglot's twice the sice to park your huge Dodge Ram Pickup truck. Everything is tiny and build for crowded city's.

Well... i don't smile.gif

The only way for me to tell if the engine is overheating is when the CNG/LPG systems shuts itself down. Above a certain temperature it's dangerous to keep driving on gas and it automaticaly switches to petrol.
