It's not bad, it's just that cameras are just super-picky under low light because of the longer exposure. Longer Exposure generally means that the picture is more susceptible to jerks.

Set it on your knee or on the ground to help keep it steady. You almost have to have a tripod to do the night shots well though.

try finding "natural" stuff to put the camera on for a tripod, like the ground, rocks e/t/c
