I like the front but the rear is hidious. Also don't like the wheels or the 2 tone gold paint scheme. Either all body color or use the trademark grey/raw plastic look. They DEFINITELY need to have a more subtle hatch and put some badges on (like this photochop):

Zero: Hero:

And for the love of all things Volvo get rid of that Chrysler looking emblem or handle or whatever that is off of the glass:

Hah.. pegs are once again the s3x!?orz!

Nice work.. i'm totally with you and zero/hero!!

i skimmed through the post, and i'll admit i did not see what everyone wrote in detail.

this is supposed to be the new xc30. a small suv available for customers who complain the xc90 is too big.

the real reason they are making this is to use the same platform across the ford line. they plan on building the land rover freelander on this platform. the freelander is the smallest truck in the land rover line up, but it is more than capable of doing many things the bigger ones can. problem is, the freelander has had the same design since 97 in europe, and since its launch here in the states in 01, it has not changed. they actually are not selling an 06 model in the north american market until this new xc30 comes out.

ford, if i'm not mistaken, is also planning on using this platform for the new escape and mazda tribute.

we'll see what happens in the future. again, this is a full volvo design that will be used by all the car lines under the ford umbrella.
2005 volvo s60 2.5t awd... ice white... stock...

2005 jaguar s-type r... radiance red, two tone dove & charcoal interior, aluminum dash trim... open air intake, underdrive pulley, mina gallery exhaust.... probably pushing over 475 horse at the crank, and something similar in number in torque...

haha i think it'll be time to trade the T5R in for it when it comes out
it's amazing how fast they made it, i was kinda disappointed in the S40 T5
but i hope they take slater's advice and make it look more 'volvo'
.....and 19" pegs wouldn't be bad biggrin.gif

I don't think this is intended to be an SUV in any way. Its a hatchback aimed at the younger population.

Oh yeah... 260 hp stock? This could be made to be very fast, no?

maybe not suv, but xuv, a crossover vehicle. i do know for a fact that the platform will be used for the new freelander from landrover, and ford has been talking about it being the platform for the tribute and excape.

That is no SUV, and does not resemble an SUV. Look at the front end and side profile. It's car all the way.

This vehicle is in the Mazda 3 hatch, Focus hatch, Toyota Matrix, Scion Xa catagory. An entry level. The V50 a "crossover SUV" is already in the Volvo lineup as a small SUV and is the XC90s "little brother".

The 30 designates it below the 40-series, which was already the entry level car. So to me the 30 series is a going to target the teenager or first car market aka Civic/Scion/Mazda 3. I don't think it's targeted as a small SUV replacement. It's for a fun loving teenybopper's first car because mommy and daddy want their kid to be "safe" and who wouldn't have their kid caught dead in a Hyundai.

is it just me or do manufacturers have a really hard time designing butts? most front end look decent, but the rear.. gives designers headaches apparently.. bangled butts come into mind.

Yeah, seems like they just give up and get lazy. Case in point - the new Mustang. Front end looks NICE, but the rear end looks like they just got lazy and half-azzed it. Like this XC30...
