Well, almost a year since construction started, the basement rooms of the house are almost done and the garage will soon be done as well. Blame the contractor for the delay, he's a maroon.

Today a friend's floor company started putting in our hardwood floors (engineered, meaning it's prefinished but still real wood). What can I say, not bad for a basement. This adds an extra 600ish sqft to the house in living space.

Living room-- kitchen area, "front" door, doorway to bathroom and small bedroom.

Looking towards where the above shot was taken-- door to backyard and bigger bedroom.

Bigger bedroom with floors almost done.

Bathroom, marble and travertine tile

And now the garage. It's all drywalled, but now the compound needs to be sanded, primed and painted. On top of that, ALL of the junk has to be cleaned up. EpoxyShield floor coating should arrive soon.

I dig the yellow color down there. Bright colors in basements are good news.

Looks bitchin, Serge! I need inspiration to complete my basement project. Good work.

Was that your first attempt at laminate wood floors? If so, it looks like you're doing it all the right way.

The floors are engineered wood, not laminate (basically a 1/4" thick piece of real wood that's prefinished with a backing). I'm having my friend's company do it.

Thanks man!

I'm thinking Bay Area meet once the garage is done... BBQ, food, installs of stuff in the garage (can fit two 850s).

Something around 35 feet long by 13 feet wide, along with a nice little nook for my workbench area. It'll fit two 850s end-to-end with a few feet to spare.

I love the flooring - what kind of wood is it? What's those straps going across the floor?

The floor is maple, not sure which kind. The straps are keeping it in place while the glue adheres.

Looks like a laminate flooring, wood floors aren't floating unless installed on concrete. Judging by the screws sticking out of the boards hold the floor inplace, it's not concrete. Anyhow, just looks like a laminate flooring, not wood floor. Looks good none the less, big change.

The subfloor is concrete with a plywood top added (1") to add as a temperature barrier and to flatten out the surface. The floor is engineered flooring, for the third time. 2cm thick piece of wood, with 5cm of plywood under it, prefinished. If you want I'll take pictures of the profile and the boxes that the floor came in.
