I just bought this 96 850, heat was not working so i looked under the fuses and saw that #5 (ECC blower (speed4)) fuse 30a was not there... i shut off the car and putted a new fuse in... while putting it in there were some sparks and all of the sudden heat went on... car is off at this point and heat control is at 0/off.
did anyone have similar problem?

Does the heater now work with the new fuse in or has it blown the new fuse? If it works, you're home free; if it blows, you obviously have some sort of short that you need to find or the blower motor is completely shot.

New fuse works...and does not blow, but heater controls still dont respond.

Is the blower motor working? Do the lights on your recirc. and AC rocker switches flash when you turn on the blower? Do you get any heat after the car has warmed up and the selector switch is set to defrost?

What do those flashing lights really mean. When I turn on my AC (which doesnt work) those lights flash at me. I already know the AC doesnt work. A few months back I had the refrigerant spray out into my car. Im guessing this would be the evap but the dealer said that my AC condensor (maybe compressor) may be about to go on me. My guess was the evap but I could be wrong. Someone please tell me Im wrong.
Sparks arent good man. Check the ground lines to make sure they are all connect properly. That would be my best guess as to what caused sparks. In the mean time take out that fuse and dont turn on your heater.

Electronic climate control system fault codes are obtained from B1 socket. Codes are listed on p. 3-10 of Haynes manual or I'm sure could be found by doing search in this forum.

I'm having the same problem, when I went to pull the codes, they Volvo code reader couldn't communicate with the system.

Are you saying that the heater blower is running even with the ignition OFF? Even with the key removed from the ignition?
