Hello, I have owned my 1995 Volvo 855 turbo wagon for just over a year but I'm new to this forum. Lately I've had enough problems that I can't figure out on my own, and I haven't talked to anyone who has heard of them.
A few months ago I pulled the right-hand wand back to squirt the winshield wipers and they never turned off. I had to remove fuse 11/34 (windshield wiper/washer, horn, headlight wiper/washer) and then I didn't have wipers for the rain. After applying liberal amounts of Rain-X for a couple months I decided to check the switches in the wand on the steering column... Using my multimeter I found nothing wrong, so I re-installed the wand and they worked!
Well they worked for a few weeks and then it happened another time that I tried to squirt them. Even when I removed the wand (and both harnesses that connect it) the wiper motors & pumps run with the fuse installed. The car is due for inspection this month so I need to fix my problem ASAP.
Has this happened to anyone else, and does anyone have any suggestions on what to examine further? Thanks for any input in advance.

When I pulled the wand to spray the windshield the wiper motor on my pass side headlight would make noise and not stop when the wipers were shut off.....so I took off the headlight wiper on the pass side.......you just have to move the shaft to the left or the right a little to get it to stop making the noise now if the wand is pulled to spray the windshield.....
Im not sure if you have this same problem...........yours sounds light your windsheld wipers wont stop....I havent heard of that but others have had the problem with the headlight wiper motor.

My problem is with the windsheild wipers, though I suppose it's with the headlight wipers too since they're on the same circuit. So did you have to remove the wiper arm to make an adjustment, or permenantly?
I've been looking at the electrical diagram in the Haynes manual and I don't understand why they would run at all with the switch disconnected. Any ideas?

In my case the wipers dont keep on going but its the motor on the pass side headlight wiper that will keep on making a noise.. even when turned off.........it keeps on making a noise until you jiggle the shaft then it will stop.....Like i said others have posted this same problem...Yours seems to be more unique because as of yet I never heard of it

Perhaps the relay for the system is sticking in the ON postion, that could keep current going to the system. Take out the relay and test it. Or for the price of a relay just replace it. And while your at it you might as well install the VW/Audi relay so you can have intermittent wipers. My .02 cents.

The only relay I see is for the intermittent function. Normally my car has intermittent wipers but they are fixed at one speed. Will the VW/Audi relay allow me to install a knob to adjust the delay? Also, is there any other relay for the system? (seems to me like the switch connects directly between fuse and wiper motors if I remember correctly)

bad relay. pull it, replace it.
