how do i remove this trim piece from my tailgate? I need to put it on my new door.

It is from inside the tailgate. You need to remove the inside tailgate panel to access the screws.

Yup, there's four 12mm nuts holding it down, plus two plastic snap rings on the tumbler and push-lock rods. There's also a short wiring harness for the two plate bulbs that you'll need to snake out.
