This just started happening--first it was creaking a little like it needed to be lubed when I would turn hard to the left--the front passenger side would creak. Last few days, it makes the creaking sound when I first take her out, and then it turns into a quick clicking sound when turning, either left or right, and not even at full turn. No vibrations though and had breaks done about a year ago, but the alignment keeps going out after only a month or so and keep getting outer tire wear on the front, equal on both tires.
CV, struts, bushings. tie rods? I am bringing into shop this afternoon but would appreciate any comments from someone who has had similar problem. I am suspecting that this noise has something to do with the alignment problem, but not sure.
Thanks all.

Rule of Thumb (but maybe not always)--inside wear-center wear-outside wear, is camber-castor-toein, in your case too much toein.

well just got back and the mechanic did not see anything wrong, so he just lubed the steering stops and said to come back next week if the noise comes back. On the drive home, the creaking sound was gone, but the clicking sound, when the wheel is just about fully turned, was still there--sounds like something is getting ready to snap off. Any further advice would appreciated, and thanks for the tip on the alignment problem, ie the toe in.

I'm used to hearing this on Hondas alot and that's the CV joint. When turning with the wheel at lock, give a little gas and see if the noise get worse. You get that familiar "clakity-clakity-clakity-..." sound if it's the CV joint. Jusually, you can't even feel any play in the joint.

would the CV generally fail on the 850's if the boot is not damaged?

I know that turbo 850s can eat CVs for breakfast with all that torque, I guess that applies to N/A 850s as well. Every single FWD car that I've had has had failed CV joints at some point or another - consider it a wear and tear item.

I had similar sounds and it turned out to be the hub/bearing. Even the mechanic couldn't believe that was it, because it doesn't sound like a typical wheel bearing gone bad, but the noise stopped after he replaced the hub.

was it a popping/clicking sound? i get that sound, and can't figure it out....some say steering rack, some say CV(new axles i have, though!). I get it when turning over little bumps, or just partially turning at slow speeds.

I have a clicking sound when my car is parked on a forward incline (car pointing down) and I back up, or when I quickly let off the gas when accelerating, or sometimes when changing gear (but not when turning). Sound like a CV or axle issue to you guys?

Check the boots on the control arm ball joint. I've had a clicking popping sound for a couple weeks and I crawled under the car to find that this boot had torn.
