You will need to remove tranny to install internal filter. Most tranny rebuilders sell the filter for $15-20

There is NO filter on your tranny. That's why we all flush ours between 20-30K miles. If you want though you can attach a magnetic filter into the line. Such as with this: http://www.ipdusa.com/ProductsCat.aspx?Cat...=275&RootID=629
Don't know about a square magnet, but I do believe that the tranny drain plug is magnetic, so it should be taken out periodically and the sludge cleaned off of it. One way to do the "flush" is to start there and drain what comes out and then fill up through the dip stick hole the same amount before starting the regular flushing procedure through the hose. Hope this helps.

OK, here Goes,

THERE is a filter inside your Tranny.

I doubt if anyone who responded to this post have opened a AW 50 42 LE tranny. I have and there is a filter inside the transmission. I recently changed it.

Cost is Still $15-$20 depending on where you buy. it. It is sold by most tranny repair shops.

Unless the 2 trannies I have opened are the only 2 ever made with a Filter ?

but why would tranny parts manufactures filters for only my 2 tranny.

I hear what your sayin dude, I started this in question since the manual was reading said there was and I was searching for the P#, implying that in fact one did exist ya know, but if it involves removing a trans which I wont attempt for a $20 filter then I gamble and simply choose to replace the old fluid, easy man ! and I did try searching to begin with, so if anyone;s got a Chilton book, refer to said page or the proper sction as Im recalling from before and not reading the book and check it out, again, does anyone have the P# ! nevermind I'll figure it out myself...

Hey Made in Japan,

Most people here can spell & are quite aware of phonics, we just dont think that people really care too much about spelling and grammar as long as they get the information they are looking for in a timely manner. Glad you discovered something new called Phonics.

Too bad, you cannot admit being wrong. This board is all about learning and sharing information, while having fun. Rather than admitting to learning something new, you resort to weak sauce personal attacks.

Oh Well...

I did not personally attack anyone. I do contribute to this board and learn something new everyday. So, please accept my apologies, and I admit that I was wrong about the filter. Personally I don't care about phonics either....just something weird hit me late at night while I was posting and started mistyping. I'll try to stay on track, so please don't take what I said personally, it was not directed at you or anyone else. It was just me being silly.

Okay, now back to Volvo's....they are much more important.
