I just recently purchased a 98 S70 and have a couple questions for now:
1) Does my 98 N/A S70 have a flame trap? If not, what is in the hose that connects the PCV system to the air intake?
2) Where is a good place to get parts for the PCV system, I checked fcpgroton but they only had the parts for a 97 850? I want to replace this system as I have some gas coming out of the oil dipstick tube while the engine is idling, is this a sign of a clogged PCV system.
3) If I do replace the PCV system do I need to take off the intake manifold or is there another way to access this? If I have to take it off what are the torque specs for the intake manifold bolts and do I need a new gasket? Are there any instructions for replacing this on a 98 S70?
Thanks for you help.

That's for a turbo'ed Volvo...he's asking about a N/A. The vent. systems aren't the same are they? Does he have a flame trap? I have a turbo S70 so the write-up applies but I always thought the N/A's were considerably different. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I appreciate the links and they may very well be what I need to work on these two parts, but that link to the flame trap repair is for an 850 not a N/A S70.
My first question is if a 98 S70 even has a flame trap? If not then what does it have or why does it not have a flame trap?
Is there a link to a drawing of the PCV system on a 98 N/A PCV system and where are the parts available?
Thanks.

Beef, if there is a flame trap it will be in the hose that connects to the side of the intake hose from the air cleaner box to the throttle body, closest on the driver's side (not the front of the car). There should be a bayonet connector there that you twist 15mm to the left for it to let go. Check yours and see. Should be fairly easy to get to. Then check the hose off of this that goes under the intake manifold where the oil trap (separator) is as well as the other hose (if it exists) off of this hose that goes to the vacuum tower. Seems the S70 is a bastardized version that is somewhat between a later model year 850 and the earlier '93 850 NA. Here's a diagram of the '93 I uploaded over on brickboard for a guy asking a similar question about a '93.

Although the picture is small, this is one of a S70's non-turbo '98 looking at the same area.

Hope these help.
P.S. I mistakenly said '97 S70, but I meant '98 S70, so apparently some do have flame traps. However, the instructions which are hard to read say to take it out and throw it away. These diagrams are from the volvo parts program.

madeinjapan thanks for the links. The second picture is just to small to see anything but I am going to take a look.

I can email you a bigger picture if you want. Brickboard resizes things and makes them too small. Just email me badger36-at-knology.net

At the very bottom of the page on replacing the flame trap, Rich states that Volvo stopped putting flame traps in NAs starting with the 1998 model year.
My '98 NA doesn't have one.
