ok, so i went to check my oil the other day and i noticed some brown-yellow foam on my dipstick. i'm guessing this is a little water in my oil.
normally i wouldn't worry about it, as it's nearly time to change my oil, but my coolant is low too. am i getting coolant into my oil?

In that case, try changing the dipstick o-ring first.

What does the cap smell like? How is the color of your coolant?
Any smoke out of the exhaust?
Headgaskets are a pain, but it could be worse.

not too much in the way of smoke out of the exaust. i do get a little bit of oil around the filler cap, no foamy looking stuff though.
i think my thermostat just went out today, so hopefully i didn't make anything MORE broken than it already is.
i'll be installing the new thermostat tomorrow afternoon. i'll do a good coolant flush and see how clear it stays.
i imagine a head gasket is something i'd take the car to the shop for. i doubt i'd have a problem doing it myself, but i don't really think i'd find the time.

When was the last time you carefully checked the coolant?
With the thermostat gone, you might just have some extra condensation.
When you change the thermostat, an oil change might be in order, with an effort to clean out any condensation that you can, including the dipstick and tube.
It would not hurt, and you can take a good look at the drained oil. Maybe have it tested?
