Hello,

on my way back from work today, I noticed that my first gear was taking longer to shift into 2nd than usual...

I also noticed the blinking arrow sign on my dash board. I read in the owner's manual that it is a problem with tranny but not much more info...

When I got the chance to stop, I put the car in park, then back into drive and the first gear was shifting properly again. The damm arrow is still blinking though...

Is my tranny dying? Can it be that there isnt enough tranny oil?

HELP!!!

Thank you in advance!!

There's probably a code stored. Check out Bay13 on how to check for transmission codes.

So basically that light will keep on blinking until I check the codes an reset it?

Also Bay13 says to check all codes before being able to reset... Does that mean I must read all codes for A1 or do I have to read all codes for all categories?

Sorry for the newbiness...

Must read all codes for that category until the first code repeats before trying to reset that category.

this happened in my car when the PNP was sticking, also when the TPS was disconnected. They were simultaneous incidents, so I don't really know which of the two things was causing it, but I suspect PNP.

Even though it's acting fine now, you need to clean your PNP switch or it will likely happen again.

Pretty simple procedure, turn ignition on but dont start the car, foot on the brake, and ratchet the shifter from P to 1-2 back and forth about 20 times.

Good luck

Exactly, it is an intermittent problem. I'm 100% sure that the arrow will return for you. It's best that you replace the PNP, or you'll be putting alot of stress on the tranny, and you're just asking for it. What happens is that there is a grease inside the switch, and when it gets old or hardened, it locks the PNP up and doesn't allow your tranny to shift properly. You can pull the PNP and open and try to clean it, but it's better just to buy a new one and throw it in. You can get one for about $100 from FCP or Ebay. If you remove the entire airbox assembly, you'll be looking right at it. Very easy job to do yourself. Just do some searching on here, we've all replaced em!

My old 850 had the flashing trans arrow problem a.k.a. PNP switch malfunction. I found it would act up during cold weather and would stop flashing after 5 restarts.

Change the PNP switch.

i'd be sure my PNP was responsible for my autotragic issues right now, if it werent for the strange scraping/grinding noise coming from the transmission in P or N.

before i rip it apart for the manual swap i'm going to try cleaning the PNP just for the hell of it.

This doesn't sound like a typical PNP problem and getting the transmission codes read will quickly clear this guessing game.

Are you guys talking about the orange arrow that usually comes up when your in over drive? On one of the days that my car gets pms it was blinking. I didn't know what for.. everything was working fine, and the next day it went away. That was 4 months ago. So is that what it ment?

Funny how these things come up on the board with odd timing. I'm having the same issue with the dreaded flashing arrow. Already tried the "cleaning the contacts" trick, which held off the problem for a few weeks, but now it's here for good and I want my tranny to last. Will replace PNP this weekend. The instructions on Bay 13 seem fairly straightforward. From those who have replaced the switch - any pitfalls to watch out for?

Thanks!
