So, now my car isnt' starting too...

When the key is in the ignition position, the starter just whines (constant tone - no variation like it normally has). The engine is turning, but nothing is happening (no start). Battery has 12V until trying to start, voltage across the batt drops to 8V at that point.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

If you say engine is turning and starter has constant whine,I'd be looking at my compression.
Just a thought. Hope not.
Cheers.

Only 8 volts while cranking??? The battery shouldn't dip below 9.6v. Try charging the battery and have it tested. Other than that, there just isn't enough info in your post for other possibilities.

Lol.. I can see that it's you tongue.gif

I'll check the battery, that was one thing that bothered me. This car has eaten 2 other batteries this month (blew up an Optima! and just sort of butchered a Diehard). I'm also going to check the compression if the battery doesn't appear to be a culprit.

I've got half a mind to get rid of the battery and just have a 'shore power' terminal for starting mad.gif

I would also check to make sure the alternator is not overcharging if you went through 2 batteries in a month.

The alternator appears to be ok.. the problem seems to be more the .3A current drain when the car is turned off.

stuff 0.3A is a lot
94 855t
dawes mbc @ 12-15psi depending on climate (Darn cutout)
dirty k+n cone + kevin's old ghettorigged heatshield (need to move onto slater's "ghetto" style setup)
bfg trac t/a 205/50/16s (pretty decent for a standard tire but they're no toyo)

Hooked the car up to another (running) car and bypassed the battery, tried starting, no success.

The problem isn't electrical.

Any other ideas? I'm about to compression test and look at the timing belt.

Interesting thought.. but is hasn't been below 50 degrees here recently. If that is the problem, I'll probably notice it in the compression check though. Thanks for the suggestion!

Definately a good suggestion, that is a common problem on these cars.
