2 nights ago, My 95 850T was fine (or so I thought). I took my kids sledding during this most recent snow. 2 hours later, I engage the remote starter from the top of the hill and all visible signs suggest that the car is running. The headlights flashed, then came on and stayed on - usually an indication that the vehicle is running. However, as we got closer, I realized it wasn't running. I tried with the key, no luck. It was about 30 degrees outside and I had just driven through about 10 inches of snow to park but there was no snow touching the underside of the vehicle once stopped.

I checked the #2 fuse, it was fine. I had about half a tank of gas. This story sounds so much like so many others that I have read since yesterday. [b] It turned over and over but never fired up.
\

I had it towed to a local shop where they are very reputable. They haven't had time to look at it yet. I printed about 10 of the other entries from our site on the situation to show them so that they wouldn't waste my $$ by diagnosing stuff that many of you have already spent time and $$ on.

I have read many entries on this same problem. Very few of the entries indicate the final outcome of what the problem was.

I'm curious about the external conditions preceding the problem to see if there are enough similarities to mean anything.

Specific questions:

What were the weather conditions, temp, precipitation, etc. Had you just driven through snow or water...
What was a waste of money and what finally worked.

Thanks to everyone for posting their questions, I feel your pain because I'm in the middle of it.

I saw several entries that mentioned snow or cold.

If you've read mine with the "lawn-mower sysndrome," I haven't had much chance to work on it due to weather.

However, if you have fuel and spark, but low or no compression, I would try cranking a long time until it catches. Maybe try starting fluid (is this O2 sensor safe, anyone?) sparingly to see if you can get some fire going. Also, your plugs may be either fouled or drenched in fuel, so pull them out and clean them and try again.

In my case, the temperature was about 45 deg. F and dry.

The biggest waste was time. I should have kept on cranking instead of removing parts. Around here, in California, I have never heard of valves sticking to the point of not starting. A relative of an inlaw is a certified Volvo repair station mechanic. In his many years of working on Volvos, he has not heard of it either. Therefore, no compression always meant bad news.

Will your engine just turn over and over and over, but will not crank? Are you getting spark? If so, it may be your fuel pump relay or the fuel pump itself. My 96 Turbo was running fine, went in to eat lunch during work, came back out and it would not crank. Check all the normal stuff and noticed that I did not smell any gas fumes from the exhaust pipe after trying to crank it foe a while. You can get down by the gas tank and have some one turn the key until the lights come on in the instrument cluster and you should be able to hear the fuel pump run for about two seconds each time you do this. From what I have read, it seems that alot of people have the fuel pump go out at about 120,000 to 140,000 miles.

Here is the post that I put out when I was having fuel pump problems

http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?s...ndpost&p=369000

I have also read many post where the cam position sensor went out.

The local repair shop has traced the problem to the fuel pump. Power all the way down but no actuation at the pump.

Thanks for the replies.
