Hi folks, did anyone have serp-belt tensioner fail?

FCP sells two kinds of tensioners, are they interchangable? Do different year cars have different mounting brackets for tensioner, pulley, steering pump, etc.?

Thanks,
Alex

Yes and Yes. I haven't had to replace mine, but I've read other posts on this forum from people struggling with this compatability issue. i would call FCP and ask.

The interchange-ability question, I can't answer.
The question of, do they fail?
Answer is YES, they do fail. I've had the tension spring break, (not on a volvo) and on my volvo, the internals had too much wear, and the pulley didn't run straight. It caused some weird noises. The belt actually started to ride up on the grooves of the power steering pump, and when it dropped back into the slots, it made a noise that sounded bad - like the pump was about to come apart. As the engine run, it would do this each time a certain place in the belt came around. (the belt looked ok)
Also, the bearing in the wheel has failed.
Experience is a hard teacher, it tests first and teaches afterward.

Thanks guys for replies. My tensioner is making noise and I figured it will break soon, maybe. The noise comes from the part where the spring is but the noise is not as noticable after I drive for awhile. I know both rolers are ok (at least not making noise) on the tensioner and idle roler/pulley as noise changes when I pry on the top of the tensioner while engine running.

Has anyone put any lubricant into the crack from top of the tensioner?
