I need some ideas as to what might be causing this noise. It's the 97 850 which had new rotors and pads installed in October 05 and new struts, mounts and spring seats just last month. I got an alignment after the struts job.

So the noise is not a squeal like brakes, and not quite the groan that goes with power steering going out. It's somewhere in between and only happens if I've turned the wheel more than a full rotation and am going slow (under 15 mph). I haven't noticed any difference in the steering handling. There's no noise when driving straight or taking wide turns or curves. It's more prevalent when I turn right, but does make a quieter sound when I turn left. I want to say it sounds a bit metallic.

So any ideas?

Thanks,
John

raise up the front tires.. grab the spring, spin the tires.. if you feel vibration in the spring... you have bad bearings.

When you say raise up the front tires, what do you mean? Jack the car up by the frame? Jack the car up by the a-arm area? Is the point to keep a load on the tire/springs in order to test it?

I have the same problem, also I have a noise at my rear wheel that sounds like a "rubbing" noise, (thats the best way to describe it) the intervals between the sounds dereases with speed. I don't know if it is still there at speeds over about 25mph. I don't know im going to look into it right now.

The front noise I have same as above, i think. But I also have a clunk when traveling at slow speeds and go over a speed bump, curb, pothole ect.. Replaced p. steering rack, shocks (front), shock bushings and stabilizer bar. Also wheel bearings were replaced. I'm thinking tie rod end or ball joints, because they are really the only items that are not new in the past year. Any way to tell the difference or should i just replace them, i do have 185k miles on it.

when i replaced the wheel bearings it was due to a rumbling/grinding noise at any speed and i think it was louder at high speeds, but I think the key to diagnosing the w. bearings is that it is only/mostly while driving straight.
