It's Friday morning here in sunny Jacksonville, FL and I'm spending the morning replacing the driver's side outer CV boot. The axle came out without any problem.....but I knew that wasn't going to last long for some reason. I can't seem to get the outer bearing section with the wheel bearing splines to come out so I can put the boot on. I can keep the retaining clip open to their widest poing with a pair of hemostats, but even carefully smacking the bearing section gently with a small ballpeen hammer won't release it. Any suggestions? I'm going to get something to eat and come back to this site after lunch hopefully with an answer.

Thanks everyone...........

Your best bet is to go rent a fwd hub bearing puller from Autozone while you're out to lunch wink.gif

You may have already done this; but the best way is to mount the axle upside down in a vise with the joint you want to remove hanging down. If you have someone to help; have them open the clip while you knock off the joint with a large hammer and punch.

I won!!!! The extra set of hands worked. I'll still be getting the grease out of my finger nails for a couple of days, but it's worth the labor savings $$$$ I would have had to pay.

Thanks everyone.

Hardcore! I've sucked it up and simply replaced the axle in the past.

Granted, I waited until I heard the clunk of death = rebuild only!

new axle is $89 with AAA discount from NAPA. How much is just the CV joint? Is it even worth while?

It was about $25 from FCP Groton (boot kit only). To me, it's worth the savings, plus now I know how to do it.

I just discovered that my driverside CVB is also leaking mad.gif when I changed the oil today.

Xraybob, how about a write up so I can follow your lead in changing this sucker. Thanks in advance!
