Mike, Jason, and Bric know that I replaced my F.P. today with a walbro type pump. Everything went well, and I did it in a rush, and threw it back in. Car starts up, I drive around, cool.

Well, so I'm off to Mike's place 2 hours north of me, to do an install ph34r.gif , and boom, car turns off in the left lane of the 405...I knew it was the fuel pump, cuz the hose was too short, and I "made" it work, and I got lazy and quickly spliced the connector in.

Got it towed to my uncle's knowing I could just pull the pump out, do it right, and be on my way up to Mike's. Well, fixed it, got a longer hose, spliced and crimped the connector, left the pump out, put it in Pos. II and heard the whine. Sweet, I say to myself, and I screw the nut down, reconnect the lines by tapping on them with a hammer.

CLose things up, and no start, and I hear fuel spraying from under the car, and it's all over the driveway....open it back up, and notice some little red pieces on top of the housing, and fuel overflow....have my friend crank while I look, and it's spewing from one of the lines I tapped down.

Pull the line off....here's what I see

The fitting/line on the left that's off the housing is the one that broke

An example of the red pieces that came out

Anyone have any idea on what is involved. Going to get it towed to a volvo indy tomorrow, cuz by the looks of it, that line has to be replaced, and it goes under the car somewhere. Unless you know how I can just replace that little fitting there. any part numbers for the line and fitting?

Can't drive my car, and probably won't be fixed till Monday or Tuesday since tomorrow is Saturday, and the part will be impossible to find. Will be renting a car unless it miraculously gets fixed tomorrow.

You need a new line according to the dealer..says you cant buy the ends...Thats what I was told but who knows..

When I called the dealer on the hose and ends from what he told me they are in the $90 range(for the hose with the ends in it)(its one piece)...not cheap

I think the other end of the line goes to the fuel filter?????

Volvo dealer(parts) is open on Satudays in Van Nuys(Galpin)...

See if those ends don't just pop off. If so, you could definitely steal a new"-er" set off a graveyard car. The fuel line is WAY less expensive when you just buy generic stuff, instead of the OEM. Take the fitting in, say "I need THAT diameter, and 8 feet (or so)."

Right...if the ends come off, just buy compatible fuel safe line to fit between the ends. Volvo dealers have spools of all kinds of lines in the back of their parts dept. Ask them about that line rather than buy something specific. It'll work and be much cheaper.

Well, I was stuck on the 405, AAA'd it to my uncle's, then all that breaking of the fuel line happened. The next morning I called the dealer, and they can't get that part in till Tuesday. So, what to do? Well, called up a local VW mechanic that was just a mile away, got it towed to his place sad.gif

He had amigo check out the situation, and amigo said he could just cut off the stupid fitting and clamp a hose onto there really well, and I'd be gtg.

He cut that sucker off, put on some fuel hose, cranked her right up. He said I could drive as much as I wanted to on that, and it wouldn't be an issue, but that it would be better to get that part and put it in when I could, so I will go ahead and order the hose (goes from the fuel pump to the fuel filter under the car from what I gather) and let him throw it on there. I drove almost 200 miles on it this weekend, and stayed out of boost alot, and I had no issues (except that my starter may be taking a crap).

Anyway, lesson learned....do not bang down on that fitting to get it on there, the plastic filter and o-ring become very brittle and just break, leading to leaking and no fuel pressure. Line it up straight up and down to the opening on the fuel pump housing, and then gently push down until snug.

Thank for all the excellent input fellas!
