I had my front fender lips rolled this past summer. The shop that did it decided to trim the fender liners back too, without asking/telling me first. They trimmed the liners back about 2 inches from the outer fender. This gap, albeit small, allowed alot of dirt and debris into my engine bay during this past winter. So I finally decided to install new fender liners. Here's my writeup:

1) Here is why I needed to install new liners:

2) Tools & Parts required:
-fender liners - left:#9152577; right:#9170194
-18 blind rivets, 9 for each side (part #979878)
-small set of pliers
-wire cutters
-riveter
-drill with <1/8" bit

3) Start by jacking up the car and removing the wheel. Drill out the existing rivets. I found that you don't actually need to go all the way through the rivets, but at least enough to remove the rubber head on the rivets. The small pliers were helpful to remove the heads. Once the rubber heads are removed, the liner should come off pretty easily over the small metal rivet heads. (NB:the rivets that attach the liner to the front bumper were all plastic, with no metal center, so they were very easy to remove). Next, remove the plastic nuts the hold the fender liner in (there are three of them). These just pull right off (again, the pliers proved handy for this).

Now remove the fender from the wheel-well. The metal heads are still on the rivets now, but there should be some fore/aft play. I used the wire cutters to cut the heads off the rivets, then just pushed the rivets out.

Here is what 10 years of dirt in mudflaps looks like blink.gif :

4) Install the new fender liner. I find it easiest to put the fender liner into place, guiding it over the guide screws first and then attaching the plastic nuts to hold it in place. Next, make sure that the small tabs/teeth on the fender liner are lined up properly on the outer fender lip. Don't forget to reinstall the mudflap. Use the rivet gun and the blind rivets and start riveting away. I found it easier to start with the side that attaches to the front bumper, and then do the rear side with the mudflap.

Yes, I know, there are a couple of rivets missing...Volvo only gave me 16 rivets sad.gif

Hope this guide is helpful and let me know if you have any questions.

Question, how did you fit the liner to the rolled fender edge? Is it tucked up inside or outside like stock?

I "unrolled" the fender...not a fun process, and some of the paint ended up cracking mad.gif

So you had your fenders rolled - then you unrolled them?

Also how much did the new liners cost?

yep...I no longer need them to be rolled, since I don't have Intrax springs anymore...the Intrax made my car sit about 1/2" lower in the front, so I needed the fender lips rolled when I had my 18s on

Volvo List Prices:
Blind Rivets - $.32 each
Wheel Arch Liner - $80.13 each

obviously you should never pay list price, so expect 10%-20% off the list price at your local Volvo parts department.
