Howdy there everyone,

I just bought a 96 855T and I noticed that I can't read the trip comuter at night (the light appears to be out). Is the light supposed to come on when the headlights come on. Is this an indeglo type light? I may just buy an instrument cluster on ebay and replace the LCD panel.

It should have two bulbs in the LCD. You'll need to remove the instrument cluster to replace the bulbs.

those 2 are accessable without removing the cluster, if you remove the kick panel and black knee bolster thingy. it'll be the middlemost two bulbs on the bottom of the cluster. this method is a bit easier than wrestling with the dash cover and everything associated with it.

Thanks! I assume that's the volvo part number? Is this a dealer-only type thing or can I hit the parts store on the way home and pick up a sylvania bulb, etc.

That number is the dealer number, but they will be expensive, if you get just the bulb you have to solder it into the holder. The bulb number is #74 look for some examples here:

That's even better. Now I can pull them out and try red led's without having to rip everything apart again if I don't like them. cool.gif

Thanks! I wonder if I could pick up a couple of those twist lock bases for .60 they sell and use those instead of having to drag out the soldering iron? They look like the might fit.

By the way those pictures of your dash are AMAZING!!!

i found the bulb and holder already together at a local auto parts place. only snag was i had to bend back the contacts a tiny bit.

dont misinterpret how easy i made it sound. bending around under the dash and getting your hand in behind the cluster is NOT "easy" (i laid with my back on the floor and used a headlamp to see what i was doing) but it was a lot less time consuming and risky for me. lots of the stuff under my dash is brittle and the fewer times i have to take apart the dash cover the better.

Thanks for the heads up. Even if it is a tight fit under the dash I agree with you that it soulds much less risky. I'm going to give it a try.
