I've got a problem with the middle door stay on my drivers side door - '96 850T. I found the thread below but it really doesn't address my problem.

I don't have any popping or grinding sounds when I open the door. My problem is the door opens all the way without stopping in the middle, like all the other doors. The flat steel bar seems to be somewhat loose but both the 10mm and 40torx bolts are tight. Also, it seems like the detent on the bar isn't making contact with the roller in the door. I can't get in there to see what's going on with the roller. Could the roller have come loose, wore down, broken off? Looks like I'm gonna have to pop a door panel. I'd really rather not! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

As I recall, your symptoms are consistent with the door stop having come free inside the door...

I just replaced my door stop because mine was doing the same thing (took it out in pieces). Only took about 30minutes and $30. You'll need various torx bits and a 10mm wrench

1. 4 screws on the bottom door panel
2. pry speaker grille off, take speaker out
3. pry off leather trim piece above arm rest, 2 screws behind it
4. pull off, door opener lever
5. Lift up on the whole door panel, and it should pop up

replace and repeat. I'm new to Volvos and it only took about 1/2 hour too do.
