I have a 97 850 GLT with 130k, and my CB boots are cracked. I understand that this is a very common problem on these vehicles..... and from what I've read the CB boot rebuild kit, although cheap, is agrivating to complete your self and one is better off replacing the whole axle assembly. So my question is....
Does anyone know where I can find the absolute lowest price on an axle assembly for a 97 850? Im on a budget and am looking to get quality parts for the lowest price.... also about how long is the job? Thanks!

CV boots, you mean. If the boots are ripped, there's probably a good chance junk got into the CV joints and they're going to die in the near future. You'd just want to replace the whole axel assembly; I think FCPgroton has the cheapest ones for our car.
As for the time, never done it, I'm sure someone else can chime in with experience.

raxles.com is also an excellent source for axles. They may be a little more expensive, but I believe their product is generally thought to be better.
As far as the time to repair: it depends greatly on what tools you have available. If you have air tools to get the axle nut off (or a very large breaker bar) you should be able to do both sides in an afternoon. An experienced Volvo tech would do both sides in under 2 hours. In the repairs and maintenance section of this forum under wheel bearing replacement you'll find the procedure to get you to the point of pulling out the axles. Also do a search on the message board and you'll get other tips and techniques. Also it's a good idea to replace the axle seals in the transaxle when you're doing the axle swap-out.
If you run into any issues; answer back to this forum and we'll help you through it.
