I have a 1994 854 Turbo with 231,000 km's and I have always taken good care of it. I only took it off dealer service in 2005, and now to an expert Euro mechanic and Tuner. PLEASE NOTE: I have zero knowledge of car repair.
Recently during acceleration I hear a whistling noise coming from my engine. Is it the Turbo, or something else? If it is the Turbo, is it failing? I've read other posts where members talk about losing a quart of out every 1000 km through their turbo etc etc. But I never lose any oil, and I only use synthetic. My oil level stays full right up until its time to change it. Maybe a bit sludgy but otherwise full.
I had a Turbo Service 3 years ago, when they cleaned all the gunk out and I'm wondering if its that time again. A bit worried as I don't have the $$ for a new Turbo.
SIDE QUESTION: When I bought the car it had 135,000 km's on it. I got the timing belt done at that time. Now that I'm up to 231,000ish should I be getting this done again?

70k mi is the interval for timing belts....
if you have never heard the turbo before and it just started making noise its not normal
could be a small exhaust leak

i have an 850 wagon with a turbo (sig), and i've always heard the whistling noise come from the engine upon acceleration... now, if you never heard it before, and it just started doing it, then it might be a problem... but everyone I talk to says that its normal to whistle.

i've heard the whistle from the turbo always...sounds almost like a cop is in front of me when I accelerate. If it never made that noise, and it is now, something is up....exhaust leak or just the turbo getting older. If you're still boosting normally and it is indeed the turbo making noise, and you're not losing oil, then leave it be. If you're not accelerating properly, and you do notice oil leakage, then take her in to check it out.
and yes, it is time to change that t-belt before it snaps.

He's posting km, might want to read that interval as "120km" -ish (in the head metric conversion). You're getting close, but it's not quite time. If you have hand tools, you can actually remove the timing belt cover and check it:
There is a single bolt (i think it's a metric, but it might be torx) holding on a black, plastic cover on the front of the block (note: passenger's side of the car). The cover comes up, and out. Inspect the belt for any cracks, or any missing teeth; if you can still see the manufacturer's labe on the smooth side, you're golden. Make sure to slide the cover in correctly when re-installing: there are a couple tabs at the bottom and it's tricky your first time.
As long as the belt looks okay, I'd leave it alone for another 20,000 km or so.

It should be either a 10mm or 12mm. I just inspected mine this weekend.
