As the title says, my brake lights are out, and the console is throwing the "Check brake light" error.

Bulbs have been replaced, mechanic said they were good, and old ones were definitely blown. Fuses are good -- replaced them anyway, still no go.

The brake light at the top center of the glass works great, just the lower taillights.

Any ideas of what to specifically look for? The mechanic is not Volvo-specific or trained, so he will not be working on the car.

Thanks!

I'm having the same issue. I think there is a weak contact somewhere. It's affecting my right brake light and turn signal. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'll hit the brakes and get the dash light, a moment later, it will be gone, and then it'll come back on after a little more driving.

Mine started that way (only not with signals), and then became an always-off event.

As far as your problem goes, it could be a relay in the trunk, not exactly sure which one because I don't have my wiring diagrams handy right now. The only thing is I have never seen it throw a message in the DIM. If you take it to a dealership they should be able to fix it in the drive.

you might check a shunt in rear electronic module. it runs the brake lights it is a thin black bar that is plugged into the fuse panel behind l/s panel in the trunk

the middle relay on the right side of rear electronic module might have a bad terminal. if you twist the relay ends so it fits more snugly that could fix it. if you can pull the module out you can have someone hit the brakes and move the wires on the backside of it until you find the ones that make the lights flicker

(I was guessing yesterday.. monkey.gif today we actually had a car in with that problem and it was the relay)

I had a car that came in with similar problem... the fix was a relay in the CEM under the dash...
I don't own a Volvo yet but I work on one everyday.
