anybody damp a s70 yet? if you have, is there anything i should be aware of before I try it? any more switches that have to be disconnected? thanks for the help... i can't wait to spend some time and get this baby dampened

haha i guess i was unclear- i DO NOT intend to dampen the entire car. i had origionally intended to only dampen the doors, but now that you say it i think i'll do the trunk and rear deck as well. those i can figure out, but my doors are still a mystery because there are NO SCREWS on the outside. my driver side door is somewhat broken (&%^ dad) and it looks like it's held in with some plastic clips that may be extremely hard to remove without breaking.. so i'm kind of stuck. oh, also, the door pannels are more molded (curved) than the ones on the 850, i believe.

in the meantime, i'm going to lowe's today to pick up some peel and seel for the rear deck and trunk!

any thoughts, anybody?

peel and seal should do the trick, the way to get your door off is kinda a biatch, you have to undo a cover that covers a screw thats in your door handle (inside) then there is a torx head screw in there t25 i think, then you have to fanangle the door off, have glue ready you will breka a clip or two

ipd sells a tool to remove the door clips without breaking them... i think im gonna buy it prior to doing my doors this summer.

INMO- it's best to spend a few dollars and buy new clips if you are removing your door panels. Inevitably, one or two are going to break, and the ones that aren't broken are weakened from the removal.

screw it, i'm taking it to the volvo shop and i'll gladly pay a few bucks to have them safely remove it and replace what they'll break. i'll just do all my damping sitting in their parking lot lol

make sure you take some time to do your dampening. I started out with the trunk since its probaly the easiest to do. Give it a shot and don't rush. Tips: Use an exacto knife to get a nice clean edge on spots that are next to trim, it cleans it up well. Do it on a warm day (shouldn't be a problem for you) so that it sticks better to the area. Make sure you put it where you want it. Its a pain to take off once its on. ---Brian

for my parents' sake, who actually own the car, is there anything negative that can come from damping, other than less road noise, more solid sounds, and a better sounding stereo?

i just have to make sure before i am allowed to go ahead with this project

Hi,

Tailgate and doors will become heavier. Tailgate can slide down due to the weight, depends on how much material you put there. Though the doors will be heavier I don´t think it will affect the mechanism.

Which department at Lowe’s did you get the peel and seal from? As I expected when I call them it’s like daaah…. And where did you get your clips? I was unable to find them at FCP or any other store and scared to call the dealer!

the main disadvatnage of dampening ohter than the slight weight increase is that the stuff you dampen over will become nearly impossible to access, for example, if you dampen over the fuel pump cover or something, in the future, it is very hard to get access at it, not impossible, but a mechanic probably wont touch it if they see it... you will probabl y have to take a razor, scraper or wahtever, spend the time to lift the dampening back up before you take it to get it fixed.

The peel 'n seal is right by the other roofing material. It comes in litte rolls. Just look around you'll see it.
