i personally haven't tried it on a 5 cyl, i know it'll be batch fire, but it'll work. i've worked with pats 240/ms1 and it's incredibly easy and fun to tune.

megasquirt is a really cheap (pricewise 300 for ms1, 500 for ms2) standalone that turbobrickers love to use for 4 cylinders.

Yeah, we got 4 cyl MS users over here as well but I need to know it can handle 5 cyl.

I e-mailed a MS retailer now and waiting for a happy reply, the charged around 400 USD for an assembled MS2.

Wouldnt it be better to wait till he had a little extra to do it right?

Agree but he need to wait over a year before he can start making money and I know MS and other low price EMS`s would do the job on this car if they only were ok for 5 cyl.

He will use my old stock blocker and 19T for now and no real need for fancy functions, just an option for 4.3.

Read about it now and can only control 4 injectors. Like the cheaper DTA. :(

Running SAFCII right now fine...also DTAfast is used on a lot of 5 cylinders (specifically Audis)...the P8 Pro model.

Could go MS2 V3, cost about $600 totally installed yourself, that includes all the electrical stuff you'd need, fuses, wires, etc.

Takes 10-16 hours.

*SAFCII is not a stand alone right? No EMS at all in the car now, I will build a harness for everything.

*The P8 cost like a Nira or Civinco and they got better software.

*Can the MS2 V3 handle 5 cyl?

Mike I might have something to send you... possibly.

by the way 034 datastreams now. Sending you a pm. Theres always haltech too... that'd probably do the job.

Yes I know it streams to AIM and MOTEC but poorly. Its fine tuning is weak compared to others in its class. It is by far the cheapest though

Oh no, SAFCII isnt' a EMS...but you said it didn't work on 5 cyl, so was just saying...

Yeah P8 is 1.5-1.8K, but also just saying since you said DTA didn't work.

MS2 as I understand can handle it, fuel is no problem, ignition a little bit different. But I believe our distributor has something similar to a 240's KA motor's Halifax system in it, so no problem there either. MS2 has worked on 5 cyl Audis, people I've talked to believe no problem with us either. I would've done it this summer, but $ issues with clutch and other things prevented me. It'll be something for December time.

Ah, ok. The P8 cost like Nira, Civinco and Autronic here. I need cheaper stuff.

The MS sounds like the best bet so far, 400 USD is cheap as hell (if it works).

MS2 will work fine on a fuel injection only application. Are there any sensors on that engine at all at the moment

?

If you want to use it for fuel only, in a batch fired application the five cylinder application is not any different than four. No?

MS2 will fire/inject an every trigger event from the crank ar cam sensor.

At the moment there are lots more possibilities using MS1, as there are more code variants. I am not sure whether ignition is possible or how difficult it is on a fivebanger, but there defenitely more possibilities including boost control when using MegaSquirt'n Spark extra code on MS1.

All stock sensors are there, need map sensor, wanter temp and IAT for MS right?

Yeah, it will fire/inject on trigger but the EMS need to calculate for 5-cyl instead of 4, most cheap EMS´s can´t do that.

This is Jerry Hoffmann from DIYAutoTune.com. Mike sent me a link to this thread so I could drop by. You can use the MS-I or MS-II on a fuel only, or a fuel and ignition control application. As Tadek said you need one trigger event for each cylinder firing. That's all it needs to calculate proper engine RPM and once you set the base timing it's ready to rock. (So yes 5cyl is no problem with a 5 position trigger wheel, equally spaced)

The MS-I will need the MSnS-E firmware for fuel and spark control, or you can run the standard MS-I firmware for fuel only. MSnS-E can be used for fuel only implementations as well and you get some improved and optional features you can implement.

The MS-II will do fuel or fuel and spark using the standard firmware.

Here's an article I wrote that covers the supported ignition options for those of you that might want to go for full control: http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_articles/m...ion_control.htm

And here's our FAQ with alot of juicy info: http://www.diyautotune.com/faq/faq.htm

I subscribed to this thread so I'll get any replies, if you have any questions just ask!

Wow, really nice. We already got a 60-2 trigger wheel, is it correct to keep every 12:th pin to get a 5 pin wheel. Sorry, slow now...

If the VS guys want to we could start a GB? I´m in, MS is perfect for this project.
